Abstract:

From early 2007 until end 2010, the Antenna Tracking System (ATS) control system has been developed and qualified by Astrium. It allows to control in closed loop up to eight antennae on a telecommunication satellite. This closed loop control improves the pointing performance by more than a factor two, from 0.13° to less than 0.05° half cone. The ATS has been successfully qualified in orbit thanks to the late 2010 KA-SAT launch. The paper presents the control loop main design drivers and challenges, as well as first observed in-orbit performances.
